What is NCLEX- RN?
If you are wanting to be a USRN, then you would of heard the NCLEX term in many of your conversations and research. The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) is an exam used to determine if nurses are safe to practice. There are two standardized tests nurses needed - NCLEX - RN for nurses, and NCLEX- PN for LPNS.
Graduates from an accredited Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) program are required to pass the NCLEX-RN to earn licensure and legally practice nursing in the United States.
The NCLEX - RN exam is aplication based as it test critical thinking skills based on nursing practises you would of learnt at your registered nursing school. The 4 main client need categories of the exam include
1) Health promotion and maintenance
2) Psychoscoial integrity
3) Physiological integrity
4) Providing a safe and effective care enrivonment
How do I register to take the NCLEX test?
Step 1: Apply for Licensure
You will need to submit an application for licensure registration from your state board of nursing to determine if you meet the criteria for exam eligibility.
Step 2: Register with Pearson Vue
Pearson Vue admisters the NCLEX exam so you will need to register and make payment to them. You can register here
Step 3: Authorization to test
After you have been declared eligible to take the exam and you have registered with Pearson Vue, you will recieve an ATT ( Authorization to test) email. You will need this ATT email to schedule an appointment to actually take your NCLEX
Step 4: Find a test location
There are Pearson Vue NCLEX test centres located globally. You will need to find one closest to you - keeping in mind, this may require travelling to other countries if there is not one in your home country.
Step 5: Schedule Exam Appointment
Lastly, you can now proceed to schedule your exam appointment.
