About Louisiana
Louisiana’s rich diversity came from its long history of settlers. They include the original Indian inhabitants, plus the descendants of a variety of nationalities, among whom were the French, Spanish, English, German, Acadians, West Indians, Africans, Irish, and Italians, and now include almost every nationality on earth. Known for their Cajun and Creole influences, from both French and African settlers, the state boasts of its unique cuisine, colonial-era structures, the famous Mardi Gras, and soulful jazz music.
Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras is a raucous holiday celebrated in all of Louisiana, including the city of New Orleans. In the final week, many events occur throughout New Orleans and surrounding communities, including parades and balls (some of them masquerade balls).
