International Contact Assignments: ALASKA

About Alaska:

Alaska is a U.S. state on the northwest extremity of North America; it borders British Columbia and Yukon in Canada to the east. Alaska is the largest U.S. state by area, covering more total area than the next three biggest states of Texas, California, and Montana combined.

The best reasons to visit Alaska include the state's remarkable landscape, wildlife, and the chance to see the spectacular Northern Lights. From gliding past icy glaciers and epic mountain crests to spotting humpback whales and bears, Alaska is home to some of the world's wildest landscapes.

Northern Lights in Fairbanks

Alaska's northern lights season is in the middle of late August and late April, peaking in March, though it's a season defined more by its long, dark nights than by solar activity. Fairbanks is considered the best place for viewing the Northern Lights in the state. Located directly beneath the oval of the Northern Lights, the northerly location of Fairbanks means that aurora borealis hunters don't have to venture too far away from the city to spot the lights.
